Did your boss or your colleague just hand you this article? “This sounds like you,” she said. “You are young and new to the profession and are eager to get involved.”
Is it true you could be an emerging leader? Then ALA Past-President (2006-2007) Leslie Burger has an opportunity for you.
Emerging Leaders 2008 will welcome and train 120 new librarians to get a jump-start in leadership. EL’08 kicks off with a day-long session during the 2008 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia. Afterward, it will grow and develop online for six months, culminating at the 2008 Annual Conference in Anaheim. Applicants will commit to participating in all three elements of the program!
We will expect the new leaders to put their leadership skills to use by accepting a term of service on an ALA or chapter committee, task force, working group, or project team.
The goal is to have 120 new librarians ready to participate in leadership in the Association, one of its divisions or state chapters.
For more information, contact Connie Paul, Executive Director, Central Jersey Regional Library Cooperative. Connie and Maureen Sullivan, organizational consultant, Annapolis, Maryland, are spearheading the project.
